Why You Should Never Deliver Client Photos on Google Drive or WeTransfer
Google Drive and WeTransfer were built for file storage, not professional client delivery. Here is why using them is silently killing your photography business.

The Amateur Drive Link
Picture this: A client pays you ₦250,000 for a luxury wedding or studio brand shoot.
Two weeks later, they receive a plain blue link:
drive.google.com/drive/folders/1aBc9XyZ...
They click the link on their iPhone. Google Drive prompts them to sign into a Google account. The folder opens in a clunky table view with generic file names like DSC_8941.JPG. When they tap a photo, it takes 8 seconds to buffer, displaying a blurry thumbnail. When they try to "Download All", Google Drive stalls while zipping, errors out, or requires 15GB of free phone storage they don't have.
This is how thousands of talented photographers unintentionally kill their client experience.
Zero Payment Protection
The biggest issue with Google Drive and WeTransfer is simple: They have zero financial leverage built into the delivery mechanism.
Once a client has access to a Google Drive folder:
- They can download every full-resolution original file immediately.
- Once downloaded, you have zero leverage to enforce final payments.
- If they still owe you a 40% balance, you are now at their mercy. You become a bill collector instead of a respected artist.
The Mobile Download Nightmare
Over 85% of clients view your delivered photos on their mobile phones first.
Google Drive and WeTransfer are notoriously awful on mobile:
- WeTransfer links expire in 7 days. Six weeks later, your client messages you in a panic: "The link expired! Can you re-upload all 400 photos?"
- Google Drive requires app downloads or forces the client to download massive ZIP archives that the iOS Files app struggles to unpack.
- WhatsApp compression trap: Because clients can't easily save raw high-res photos from Drive to their camera roll, they end up screenshotting them or asking you to send them over WhatsApp—ruining all your careful color grading and sharp sharpness.
Brand Perception & Perceived Value
Clients judge the value of your photography not just by the click of the shutter, but by the delivery experience.
Think of high-end dining: You don't serve a gourmet five-course meal in a plastic takeout container.
When you charge premium prices, sending a Google Drive link signals amateurism. In contrast, sending a sleek, private digital gallery with full-bleed responsive image grids, smooth lightbox previews, and instant mobile saving makes you look like an established, premium studio.
The Professional Delivery Standard
Modern photographers need a platform engineered specifically for visual deliverables:
- Instant mobile browsing: Lightbox view that loads instantly on any phone without requiring apps or logins.
- Built-in Payment Gates: Preview first, settle balance, unlock originals.
- Permanent, Reliable Access: No 7-day expiration timers creating extra support work for you.
- Branded Presentation: Your studio logo, custom colors, and custom watermark.
